Does anyone, particularly the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, manage an anonymous safety reporting system for the auto industry? The National Aeronautics & Space Administration has !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , where people with safety concerns can anonymously report incidents. Anyone can search the database and look for trends, and reporting offers the reporting party some legal protection.

I'm not sure if something like this exists for the NHTSA (probably a sad sign that I don't know), but there is an anonymous internal ethics hotline at my workplace (Big 3). Never used nor needed it so I can't speak to its effectiveness.

NASA's reporting system isn't anonymous, and neither is NHTSA's. Confidential, yes, but you do have to provide contact info so they can follow up.
